ras al khaimah — lee Mark rox, sister of Mark roxburgh, the paramedic involved in the tragic crash, told Khaleej Times that she wished her brother to be acknowledged and remembered for the individual he was. “so many accolades and achievements come to mind, but to do his legacy justice, i wish to share rather less than more.”

she added that Mark had been living alone in abu Dhabi. “all family members, including our mother, elder sister, me, and his daughter are shattered,” she said, adding that they lost their father in December 2017.

Mark, born in january 1975 in south africa, was qualified as an advanced life support (als) paramedic in 1998. “he had been practising locally before moving abroad to pursue an international post in als and finding his love for search and rescue.”

The father of a four-year-old girl was also passionate in sharing his knowledge, she added. “his love for children and their safety led him to publish a book, A Paramedic’s Children, based on his experiences as a paramedic with the desire to educate others on the importance of safety at home and on the road.”

Mark’s first love and drive in life was his daughter. as a young dad, he taught himself the art of hairstyles, “doing everything in his power to be the best possible dad”, she said.

“Mark dedicated the last three years to the abu Dhabi aviation search-and-rescue team in the UAE — treating every call with the respect it deserved. From training exercise to rescue, his mission came first each time,” she said.

“as a family, we take comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved.”
