RAK’s biggest bridge to be completed in a month

ras al khaimah — The biggest bridge in Ras Al Khaimah, located on the new Ring Road, is set to be completed by the end of January, the Ministry of Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t has announced.

The bridge called Awafi comprises six lanes — three in each direction — and is being built on the Ring Road, according to Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of the road department at the ministry.

“Two more lanes, one in each direction, can be added later, if a need arises,” Al Hammadi said.

Through the Awafi bridge, visitors and campers will have an easy and convenient access to scenic heritage sites, he added.

Two other bridges, Al Hadidi and Al Fahleen, are under constructi­on on the Ring Road and these are expected to be completed within the first quarter of the year, Al Hammadi said.

A rain tunnel has been temporaril­y opened for motorists to use until all road works are finished.

“In total, the ministry will be completing six bridges, six subways, and lots of rain water tunnels, on the RAK Ring Road,” Al Hammadi said.

from Khalifa specialty hospital to Shamal, will be completed in two years, giving a big boost to the federal road networks in the country.”

The 30km road, which connects the northern and southern parts of Ras Al Khaimah, stands at Dh450 million, he said.

Some other projects will be developed according to the public’s request, Al Hammadi said. “Up to seven kilometres of the Ring Road, connecting it to the Emirates Road, will be paved as well.”
