Varsity names building after Sheikha Fatima
abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi University (ADU) will name its new campus building ‘Umm Al Emarat’ (mother of the nation) in honour of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.
The Dh40 million building houses the College of Law and College of Engineering, and features a wide range of laboratories as well as academic and training facilities.
Dr Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, chairman of the ADU’s board of directors, highlighted that Sheikha Fatima is a “national icon who won the hearts of people in the UAE through her countless acts of generosity and philanthropy”.
“The new ‘Umm Al Emarat’ building stands as a symbol of knowledge and scientific thinking that reinforces the ADU’s position as one of the leading national educational institutions. Sheikha Fatima’s name holds profound significance to our nation.”
The building is equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed to support academic and training needs. It has 11 classrooms, 95 faculty offices, 24 laboratories, classrooms and multi-purpose halls.
The College of Law features a moot court that allows students to experience simulated court hearings.
The College of Engineering features a variety of programmes including civil, electrical, mechanical and chemical engineering courses; computer science; aviation; information technology; and architecture and design.
