1,518 Abandoned vehicles impounded in RAK in two months

The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality is all set to auction off 104 abandoned vehicles that have been impounded for over six months without being claimed by their owners.

“Some of these vehicles were left abandoned on public roads and squares, while others were left around scrap outlets for a long time,” said Munzir bin Shukr Al Zaabi, director-general of the RAK civic body. Warning letters had been initially stuck on all the abandoned vehicles.

“All the vehicles impounded for six months will be auctioned off, as per rules,” he said.

Details of the auction will be announced soon. “Owners will have one last chance to claim their vehicles after making the full payment of fees and fines, before the auction kicks off in a few days.”

The RAK Police announced that they have impounded up to 1,518 abandoned vehicles across the emirate in two months. Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, General Commander of the RAK Police, said the campaign was conducted from October to December 2018.

“Figures show that 238 abandoned vehicles were seized in the first week as compared to 302 in the second, 201 in the third, 144 in the fourth, 56 in the fifth, 48 in the sixth, 52 in the seventh, and 18 in the eighth.”
