ajman — The Ajman Police have denied fabricated news published by an Arabic website about a woman killing her two children and committing suicide after discovering that her husband had cheated on her.

A senior police official said the website was hacked by a trading company to publish false news to attract a large number of clients.

Major Mohammed bin Yagout Al Ghafli, deputy director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ajman Police, said that news about the occurrence of serious crimes in Ajman during the past few days were baseless. “There are no reports of such crimes mentioned in the website.”

Maj. Al Ghafli added that the site published false news about an Arab woman who committed suicide after killed her two children after she found out that her husband had an illicit affair. The website even mentioned a fictitious name of the woman and her husband. The website published the fabricated news and linked the website with a money trading company operating in the Gulf to attract customers to deposit their money. He said the entire story was false and the motive behind fabricating the story was only to attract clients to the website.

He added that the investigation proved that the news was published by a trading company operating outside the UAE. They used the website to exploit the name of the Ajman Police to advertise their presence in the country and thus attract clients in trading. It also revealed that the website — Okaz News — was hacked by the company.

Major Al Ghafli said: “We have contacted the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) and notified them about the illegal activity. The links to the false news were all blocked.”

He warned that the Police will not tolerate anyone who publishes or circulates rumours. “The UAE law criminalises any such violation,” Major Al Ghafli noted.
