10 mega projects planned to develop, beautify Peshawar city
peshawar — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned 10 mega projects for the beautification of Peshawar with the main focus on development of Warsak canals, establishment of an entertainment city, and face-lifting of historical buildings that will completely change the overall look of the Walled City.
Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Shahram Khan Tarkai said on Thursday that several mega projects had been earmarked for beautification and uplift of Peshawar.
The network of three Warsak canals, which pass through populated areas, bazaars and roads carrying wastes and plastic materials, presented an ugly look and required complete overhauling, he said.
The minister said two projects had been envisaged for the beautification of these canals, including erecting of iron fence along their length to ensure safety and enhance the overall look.
The other plan is up-gradation of platforms built along these canals into recreational spots by installing equipment for physical
exercises, jogging tracks and other sports activities.
Under a beautification plan, he said, attention was being given on the uplift of main squares by planting trees and flowers around them.
Tarkai said that face-lifting of historical buildings on the G.T. Road and Jamrud Road is another project that would enhance beauty of Peshawar, adding that selected historical buildings, schools, colleges, health units and police stations will undergo face-lifting to refine their appearance.
The minister said that Peshawar’s Ring Road carried immense development potential and growth prospects besides attracting investment and its beautification is the top priority of the PTI government, saying its location is ideal for setting up restaurants, businesses centres, parks and recreation area.
Tarkai said conversion of dump/ waste sites into small parks was another project, adding the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has identified such dumping sites that would be converted into parks to provide more recreational facilities to the Peshawar people. —
