Television channels should consider content before telecast

It has become a trend to share jokes with sexist content especially on television shows. Making so-called candid statements about one’s private affairs and involvements seem to have become the accepted norm. Different channels vie with one another in airing such interviews in order to increase their popularity and spike their TRPs. In the name of being honest, such programmes bring out such biased and sexist content not worthy of being watched by family and young children together.

While celebrities may be leading colourful lives there is no need to make them public thereby setting a wrong precedence to many others. Since there is a tendency for youngsters to eulogise and set the celebrities as role models it is the responsibility of the celebrities to observe some restraint while speaking in public. The onus lies on the media, also. Social media platforms make them viral thereby making it controversial and sensational for more to follow and be influenced by them.

People do not even realise that such content could be very damaging eventually as it affects the healthy development of an individual.

Censorship is required to control the trend as making sexist comments and sharing sexist jokes has become the in thing. And the increasing trend only guarantees unhealthy social behaviour in future. — Latha Narasimhan, Sharjah

Produce more tomatoes, please

The price of tomatoes has risen considerably in UAE markets. I feel farms in the UAE should cultivate tomatoes on a large scale so that the prices can be kept in check. — MA Mannan, Abu Dhabi
