dubai — A new update has been given by the Dubai Police on the heels of the recent announcement regarding the new traffic fines settlement initiative.

Residents who abide by the law will receive a text message every three months, informing them of their eligibility for the initiative.

The message will also inform motorists how much their traffic fine is reduced according to the amount of time which passed.

If three months pass and the motorist abided by the law, then a 25 per cent discount will be effected.

In the event that the motorist follows traffic rules for six months, they are eligible for a 50 per cent discount.

A total of 75 per cent discount will be instated for nine months, and abiding by traffic laws for a year will get the 100 per cent discount on their accumulated traffic fines.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the Dubai Traffic Police, stressed the importance of following the rules for everyone’s safety.

The initiative is part of the overall drive towards increasing customer satisfaction and happiness levels in the UAE and in line with the Year of Tolerance initiative.

According to Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police: “Starting from today, motorists don’t have to pay their traffic fines - at specified rates as long as they follow traffic rules throughout the year.”

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations, said the initiative applies to all vehicles registered in Dubai, on condition that the driver abides by traffic laws and regulations and does not commit any violations for a full calendar year starting from February.
