Bangladeshi PM to visit Idex in Capital
abu dhabi — Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be visiting the UAE early next week to seek investments and meet the Bangladeshi community, Khaleej
Times has learnt.
The premier, who is on her first overseas trip after she was elected a third consecutive time to office, will land in Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning, Bangladeshi Ambassador Mohammed Imran told Khaleej Times.
“She is coming on an invitation by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VicePresident and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday, to attend the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Idex). Both leaders are expected to hold a bilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi,” said the ambassador.
Her last visit to the UAE was on October 2014.
The envoy said the 700,000 strong Bangladeshi community is looking forward to her visit. “Bangladesh and the UAE share a historical bond and this visit will enhance our ties of friendship and cooperation.”
During the four-day visit, the prime minister is also expected to meet the UAE leadership and also the community members and business leaders. The premier began her six-day overseas trip on Thursday and is currently in Germany where she will be attending the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
In a Press briefing in Bangladesh on Wednesday, her foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque said: “We’re expecting a very warm welcome in the UAE.”
She will end her four-day visit on Wednesday and fly back to Dhaka.
Briefing the Press, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said the trip will further boost Bangladesh’s image abroad. “She has a big example of development in her pocket. I believe the entire international community will want to know how the miracle happened (in Bangladesh),” Momen was quoted in the local media.
