dubai — A waiter, who allegedly posed as an engineer working for the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation to obtain a credit card with Dh25,000 limit, faced trial at a Dubai court on Tuesday.

The Court of First Instance heard how the 32-year-old Pakistani man forged a salary certificate, falsely claiming he worked as an engineer at the nuclear corporation when he approached a bank with a credit card application.

He also forged a residence visa, in which he stated his occupation as a nuclear engineer.

The man was charged with forgery, use of forged document and attempted fraud. Two other Pakistanis, aged 37 and 38, were accused of aiding and abetting him in his attempt to fraudulently avail of the credit card with a Dh25,000 expenditure limit.

The case dates back to September 18, last year. It was registered at the Jebel Ali police station. A sales officer at the bank said they complained against the main defendant after checking his loan application papers and finding some were forged. “He approached me to open a current account at the bank and wanted to transfer his salary. The man presented original passport and Emirates ID copies. He had also included a salary certificate and statement of account in his file, claiming he worked as an engineer for the nuclear corporation.”

The bank employee said that the accused filled and signed a Dh25,000-limit credit card application and had showed her an employment card presenting himself as an engineer.
