dubai — A salesman was charged in a Dubai court on Thursday after he allegedly sexually harassed a 15-year-old girl while her mother was away inside a women’s clothing shop.

The Court of First Instance heard the incident took place on November 13, last year, at the shop located in a mall, when the 31-year-old Indian man took advantage that the girl’s mother was busy talking to another employee to grope the minor. He did it more than once. He denied the charge in court, claiming it was not intentional. A police lieutenant, who interrogated the salesman, told the prosecutor the defendant confessed he groped the teenager but claimed he touched her my mistake. “The accused admitted he helped her try an Arabian dress even though he knew he should not have to as it was not part of his job. And while buttoning it, he said he must have touched her unintentionally.”

The girl told the investigator that the accused grabbed the dress and pulled her to a corner in the shop where he rushed to help her button it and groped and touched her body inappropriately in the process. She stepped back in total shock and informed her mother when they left the shop.

The incident was captured on a surveillance camera. The footage, which was examined by experts from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology, was used by the public prosecution in the case. In the recording, the salesman can also be seen touching himself.

He confessed during investigation, that he was not authorised to dress the customers. He claimed he helped the victim try the new cloth as his Filipina colleague was busy with the girl’s mother.
