Al Aryani claims fourth gold

sharjah — Abdullah Sultan Al Aryani finished his Internatio­nal Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Games campaign with four shooting gold medals by adding one more gold on Wednesday at the Al Dhaid Shooting Club.

His gold medals pushed the UAE to top of the table in the medals tally with 13 medals (4 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze).

Al Aryani won the R6 50-metre rifle prone mixed gold on the concluding day of the shooting events. German Elke Seeliger won silver with 610.5 points while the bronze went to Abdullah Said Al Aryani.

In the R5 10-metre air rifle prone mixed, Swiss shooter Nicole Haeusler bagged the gold after accumulati­ng 631.5 points. Silver went to Indian Sriharsha Devaraddi Ramakrishn­a, while Austrian Johann Windhofer received the bronze medal.

Yousef Al Kabbi won the table tennis silver for the UAE. “I am proud of my achievemen­t which adds to the overall success of the country’s athletes in this competitio­n. The hosting and organising of this event is nothing short of amazing. It reflects a beautiful picture of Sharjah and the UAE,” said Al Kabbi.

South Korean athletes topped the charts with Guyoung Song, Kiyoung Jun and Myeongwook Ko winning the gold, silver and bronze medals respective­ly in their category. Wassana Sringam, from Thailand, claimed the gold medal in his category. Panwas Sringam won the silver and Wing Ki Yuen from Hong Kong got the bronze.

Hungarian Endre Major topped the ladder and received the gold medal in the SM1 competitio­n. South Koreans Haekon Lee and Myeongwook Ko, received the silver and bronze respective­ly. Meanwhile

the SM2 competitio­n was topped by South Korean Byungjun Song and received the gold medal.

Thai athlete Thirayu Chueawong received the silver, while the bronze went to Akzhigitov Bereket from Kazakhstan.

Thai athletes Yuttajak Glinbanche­un and Busree Wawaeni topped the charts in the SM3 competitio­n, they claimed the gold and bronze medals respective­ly, while the silver medal went to Kazakhstan’s Kaziyev Yerlan.

SM5 competitio­n was dominated again by the South Korean players, the gold and silver medals were attained by Cahsoo Kang and Jangsub Choi. Thailand received the bronze medal through Teeradech Klangmanee.

Thai Valitov Rustam received the gold medal in the SM6-7 competitio­n, the silver went to South Korean Sungil Kim. The bronze was claimed by Ussenov Kanat from Kazakhstan.

Wrapping the day’s table tennis games, Korpetayev Nurzhan from Kazakhstan won the gold medal in the SM8-10 category. Emirati Yousef Al Kaabi scored the silver medal, bringing the UAE its first medal in the table tennis competitio­ns. Makhulbeko­v Ali from Kazakhstan received the bronze.

The Internatio­nal Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games 2019 in Sharjah runs until February 16.
