-

fujairah — Ernest Asante netted a brace as Al Jazira thrashed Fujairah 5-0 at the Fujairah Club Stadium on Thursday in the Arabian Gulf League on Thursday.

Al Jazira looked more dangerous in the early stages of the game and had a number of chances but Ernest Asante and Khalfan Mubarak missed the target.

The visitors, however, didn’t wait long to break the deadlock. In the 21st minute, Barazite dribbled past the Fujairah defender before crossing the ball inside the box and Asante capitalized on a defensive blunder to slot the ball into the back of the net.

Omar Kossoko came close to levelling the scoreline in the 31st minute but his effort was thwarted by the Al Jazira keeper Ali Khaseif.

A minute later, the Ghanaian forward doubled his side’s lead when he latched onto Khalfan Mubarak’s cross from the left flank before firing home to make it 2-0.

Al Jazira had enough time to get their third before the break, as Khalfan Mubarak turned from provider to scorer. With four minutes to go, the 23-year-old found Fares Juma’s defense-splitting pass before looping the ball over the Fujairah keeper Abdulla Altamimi into the back of the net.

The Pride of Abu Dhabi’s excellent form continued in the second half as they managed to further extend their lead only nine minutes after the restart. Abdalla Ramadan fired a powerful leftfooted shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner of Altamimi’s net.

On the one-hour mark, Al Jazira made it 5-0, putting the game beyond doubt. After being fouled inside the box, Nacer Barazite was awarded a penalty kick and the Dutch forward calmly converted into the bottom left corner of the net.

The guests came close to further extending their lead in the dying moments of the game but Khalfan Mubarak’s effort was saved by Altamimi to keep the score at 5-0.

Al Jazira remain third on 31 points, one behind secondplaced Al Ain, who still have a game in hand. Fujairah, meanwhile, continue to struggle, as they remain frozen on 13 points in 12th place.
