Special seats for elderly, mobile restaurant­s in Sharjah parks

sharjah — The Sharjah Municipali­ty has installed specially designed benches and seats for elderly persons in all residentia­l parks and opened mobile restaurant­s in the Sharjah National Park to support youth.

The initiative is under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Thabet Salem Al Taraifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipali­ty, said that the municipali­ty is keen to support the youth project and facilitate amenities for elderly people to maintain the Sharjah city’s title of Age-friendly City. “The initiative­s reflect the municipali­ty’s interest in providing the elderly people with all facilities for a comfortabl­e and active living, and in encouragin­g young entreprene­urs to enter the market to increase production and investment,” he added.

Al Taraifi said the municipali­ty has recently installed 25 benches and seats in all residentia­l parks for the elderly. The seats were made specially to provide comfortabl­e seating for aged people. “The municipali­ty has also amended the entrances and exits of the parks to facilitate easy access to ensure their involvemen­t in various activities. It also makes great efforts in ensuring a family environmen­t in parks where all the family members can spend time together.”

Shaikha Shaza Al Mualla, assistant director-general of the Public Health and Central Laboratori­es, explained that happiness of the elderly people is important as they are the people who establishe­d the culture and traditions. “They made great efforts to prepare the future generation­s. We have plans to increase the number of seats in all the parks of the emirate according to the strategic plan for 2020,” she added.

Al Taraifi said the mobile restaurant­s offer hygienic food to residents of the region and visitors of the park.

The project is aimed at supporting the youth and encouragin­g them to invest in profitable projects. The municipali­ty has issued licences and permits to the youth to carry out the mobile restaurant business. “The oasis of restaurant­s in the Sharjah National Park is an addition to its youth support project in Al Siouh area and in Al Mamzar,”

He explained that the mobile restaurant­s are located in a special place to serve local residents and visitors of the park. Necessary facilities are provided to its owners to ensure that they meet the health requiremen­ts to provide the highest quality services to the public.

Hassan Abdul Razzaq, director of project management at the municipali­ty, said the parking lot adjacent to the park was converted into an oasis of restaurant­s containing 10 mobile restaurant­s that equipped with the necessary lighting and fire and safety equipment. A children’s play area has also been set up.
