Youth speak about the ‘Netiquette’
Hritika Tripathi, Delhi Private School, Sharjah
The Internet may seem like a space where ‘anything goes’. With the absence of face-toface contact, students tend to lose their inhibitions and do or say things they would not do in ‘real life’. In light of this, schools now need to think of ways to train today’s generation to be responsible and ethical life-long learners of the digital age. Teachers must demonstrate, guide, and help students in participating in learning experiences using blogs, wiki spaces, online research, and much more. We should now learn ‘netiquette’ along with ‘etiquette’.
Lavanya Liz Thomas, Cambridge International School, Dubai
With cyber crimes on the rise. today’s generation needs to know how to tackle cyber attacks. This is precisely why online privacy is now taught in schools. These days, cyber attacks are mainly faced by kids, hence, parents should keep monitoring their child’s use of technology. Digital citizenship is also something pupils must learn. They ought to respect other online users and learn how to protect their privacy and safeguard their digital identities.
Himanshee Bhargava, Our Own English High School, Sharjah (Girls Branch)
Acknowledging the increase in the use of technology, our school addresses ethical issues and privacy concerns that can affect us. Teachers keep reminding us not to harm others and be watchful while interacting with friends on social media to avoid cyber bullying. Our parents are also guiding us, by keeping us away from sites that are not meant for us. Our screen time is also restricted, so that it is used only for educational purposes.
