KEY BENEFITS

-

1 Preparation for Future:

The proper use of vertical farming can play a key role in meeting challenges of increased food demand as world population is growing and bulk of this population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050.

2 Enhanced production:

We are able to produce more crops from the same square footage of growing area. I acre of an indoor area gives equivalent production of at least 4-6 acres of outdoor capacity.

3 Less use of water:

In vertical farming, crops are produced with 70 to 90 per cent less water than required for normal cultivation.

4 Safe environs:

Crops grown outside can be affected by natural calamities such as rains, cyclones, flooding or droughts, but indoor farming is not directly affected by such unfavourable weather conditions.

5 Pesticidefree crop:

Vertical farming allows us to grow pesticide-free and organic crops.

6 Safety of farmers:

A farmer is not exposed to dangers of huge farming equipment, diseases and poisonous chemicals.

7 Energy conversion and production:

Vertical farms can also generate power. A 30-storey vertical farm needs 26 million kwh of electricity, it is capable of generating 56 million kwh through the use of biogas digesters and by capturing solar energy.
