dubai — Solidifying its role as the global capital of tolerance, the UAE has taken another first of kind initiative by introducing a professional diploma programme in tolerance.
The International Institute for Tolerance (IIT), a part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) to launch the ‘Certified International Expert in Tolerance’ programme that will begin registrations from mid-March this year. The number of candidates for the first batch of the programme will be limited to 25-30.
The agreement was signed by Dr Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, managing director of IIT, and Dr Ali Sebaa Al Marri, executive president of the MBRSG. The programme will see an ongoing strategic partnership between the two parties in the areas of training, certification and research on tolerance for local and international communities.
Speaking about the idea behind the programme, Al Shaibani said: “The programme will integrate all the principles and information related to tolerance and coexistence. We believe that if people understand the message of tolerance well, we will be successful in implementing it.”
The MBRSG will be developing the training materials and courses for the programme based on international charters and concepts.
Giving out more details about the course, Aisha Al Shamsi, director of executive education training programme for the MBRSG, said: “The first batch will be only for Arabic speaking people as the course is in Arabic but we plan to include people of more nationalities as we progress. The classes will be held at the MBRSG at the Convention Tower in Dubai.
“The programme will be divided into four intensive modules and before the students of the programme graduate, they will have to work on executive projects individually. They will be assessed based on their implementation of the skills and knowledge they got from the course. We believe this programme will help them in their work life as well as in their personal life.”
In coordination with the IIT, the MBRSG will work on developing training programmes on tolerance and organising specialised executive education programmes delivered by local and international experts. The MBRSG will also work out the fee structure for these training and executive education programmes.
Talking about the goal of the programme, Al Shaibani said: “We are working on building individuals so that they can work in different fields and promote the culture of tolerance across all professions and fields. We are looking to enable the participants of this course to be a bridge of communication between peoples of different cultures through their knowledge on tolerance and take these values to the public and private organisations.”
The MoU, which is a one-year renewable agreement, entails that the IIT will develop the strategic direction and policies in line with international agreements. The institute will also participate in relevant research that can enable the MBRSG to develop the training modules for the ‘Certified International Expert in Tolerance’ programme.
