ras al khaimah — A 19-monthold Egyptian girl, who fell off the window of her 10th floor apartment in Ras Al Khaimah on February 17, is recovering at the hospital, medical experts have said.

Dr Nedal Al Hashaika, head of paediatric intensive care unit at the Tawam hospital, who attends to Leen, said the baby is off the ventilator in the intensive care unit.

“She has survived the coma and is positively responding to treatment.”

However, she still needs more time for completing her treatment and rehabilitation programme, he added.

“Leen suffered serious multiple injuries and fractures all over her body due to the fall.”

The first aid she received at the Saqr Hospital was so critical in stabilising her medical condition and having her recovery, he explained.

When admitted to the intensive car unit, an integrated high-caliber team of specialists was formed to attend to her case, he pointed out.

“These include experts in paediatric intensive care, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, paediatric communicable diseases, paediatric cardiology, clinical pharmacology, anesthesia, diagnostic radiology, as well as physiotherapy and rehabilitation.”

Khaleej Times had earlier reported that the girl fell on the rear windscreen of a car parked in front of her building. Though the glass decreased the impact of the fall, she was seriously injured.

Her father was buying some stuff for the family from a nearby supermarket when the incident happened.

“Her mother was busy preparing the school bag of our son when Leen quietly climbed a new sofa which was placed under the window.”

Her mother saw her when she reached the edge of the window and rushed to save her, but she slipped off, he added.
