She had filed a complaint against him for a previous groping incident, but she withdrew it for fear that her boss, who is the sister of the accused, might sack her.”

Prosecution

ras al khaimah — A mechanical engineer stood trial in the RAK criminal court on charges of inappropriately touching a woman working at a company where his sister was the boss.

As per the indictment sheet, the Asian man hugged, kissed and groped the employee.

“The defendant intentionally violated public ethics; harassed and molested the complainant at her workplace, while asking her to have sex with him.”

The prosecution said the accused had also molested the complainant in a previous incident last year.

“She had filed a complaint against him then, but she withdrew it for fear that her boss, who is the sister of the accused, might sack her.”

However, the defendant allegedly did not stop harassing her, and molested her again in January this year.

Upon being alerted of the incident, the RAK Police’s officers arrested the man, who denied the charges and called them baseless.

The suspect was referred to the RAK public prosecution, and then to the criminal court of the emirate.

The defence lawyer asked the court to order the hearing of the CID officer who arrested the defendant and release his client on bail.

The court rejected the lawyer’s bail request, ordered an extension of the temporary detention of the accused, and adjourned the case to March 4.
