dubai — An Arab woman lost control over her vehicle and rammed into four luxury vehicles, causing a pile-up in Dubai’s Boulevard area last week. After veering off her course, she first hit a Porsche parked on the side of the road, crashed into two Mercedes cars, and then collided with a stationary Bentley vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said the woman was of Moroccan descent and was apparently drunk. She was interrogated by the police and will be referred to the public prosecution.

In another incident on Saturday afternoon, a vehicle driven by an Arab male driver hit an iron barrier near a roundabout and landed in the middle of the road. Photos of both accidents were circulated on the social media, and it was believed that the second incident happened because the driver was busy on his phone.

Colonel Faisal Issa Al Qasim, director of the Dubai Police’s media section, said it can’t be established if the driver was busy with his mobile phone but there is evidence that he wasn’t paying attention to the road. “Using mobile phones has become one of the most serious traffic offences that can cause fatal accidents.”

In both the incidents, the drivers were distracted and didn’t pay heed to the traffic rules, he added.
