Mother of the Nation Festival to roll out 5 first-in-region concepts
abu dhabi — A firework contest and a quantum mechanics edutainment show are among the innovative concepts that will be on display at the Mother of the Nation Festival, which begins tomorrow in Abu Dhabi.
Now in its fourth edition, the festival is an inspiring celebration of the living legacy of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, President of the General Women’s Union, and Chairwoman of Motherhood and Childhood Supreme Council.
“This year, the festival will highlight the UAE’s growth as a progressive and forward-thinking nation in line with the national Year of Tolerance initiative,” an official from the Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) told Khaleej Times during an exclusive media preview of the festival’s four zones on Sunday. The zones include the Happiness Zone, the Progress Zone, the Souq and F&B Zone, and the Special Olympics Zone.
The inaugural day of the festival will feature musical performances from the Fayha Choir, Jamie Wrecs and Aman Sheriff. For younger visitors, the festival’s storytelling sessions commence with the everpopular tale of Sinbad the Sailor, which will be brought to life by performers in the Happiness Zone, presented by Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA).
“The festival will enhance the city’s standing on the global stage, contribute to boosting the local economy, and strengthen community spirit, while honouring the Mother of the Nation’s inspirational values.
“It will also showcase the UAE as a role model for peaceful coexistence, in line with the goals of the national Year of Tolerance initiative, as well as being a destination for entertainment,” according to Saif Saeed Ghobash, undersecretary at DCT Abu Dhabi.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a traditional yoga session, as well as two creative workshops on recycling craft and clay sculpting. The Walid
Show — The Laser Man performance will combine technology, dance, and interactive light shows to dazzle audiences with an amazing spectacle.
Attendees can also take part in
a packed schedule of workshops and events designed to uplift the community’s spirits.
Organised by the DCT Abu Dhabi, the festival will run until March 23 at the Souq Al Bahar in Abu Dhabi Corniche.
