Art students all set for Special Olympics
dubai — Eight students of an art studio in Dubai are all set for their participation in the upcoming Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, and they’ve got the all-out support of their school, Mawaheb from Beautiful People.
Two of the Mawaheb pupils — Abdulla Lutfi and Vincent Baur — are athletes who will be competing in the games. Abdulla is a bowler while Vincent is a golfer, and both have been training hard for the Olympics.
The six other art students — Aarti Shah, Asma Baker, Mariam Ismail, Nazeer Ali, James Casaki — will be part of the opening ceremony at the Zayed Sports City Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on March 14. They will also be featured in a dedicated video released by the games committee in the run-up to the ceremony.
“We congratulate our young, talented students for their participation in the Special Olympics’ opening ceremony and wish Abdulla and Vincent the very best on their participation in the competitive events. These young women and men add to the pride of Mawaheb and inspire others to push their boundaries,” said Wemmy De Maaker, founder and managing director at Mawaheb, an art studio that caters to people of determination aged 16 years and older.
To be held until March 21 at nine venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is the world’s largest humanitarian sporting event that aims to empower people of determination through sports. It is being billed as the largest Special Olympics World Games in history, and 7,500 athletes from over 192 nations are expected to compete in 24 Olympic-type sports events.
