Tolerance is part of soft power of UAE: Nahyan
abu dhabi — Tolerance is the UAE’s soft power and the country has emerged as a global model for a prosperous and peaceful country, Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said on Monday.
“Although the UAE is a young country, it nevertheless has an impressive history of tolerance. Tolerance is part of the soft power of our country,” said Sheikh Nahyan.
He was inaugurating the Tolerance Talks series launched by
Khaleej Times in Abu Dhabi. Tolerance Talks 2019 is a yearlong series of talks aimed at promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence as the UAE celebrates the Year of Tolerance.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Abdul Latif Galadari, Director of Galadari Brothers, said tolerance is not an end goal as it’s a “stepping stone towards the ultimate goal which is acceptance”.
“Let us work hard on the initiatives set by our leaders and internally by ourselves towards the year of tolerance,” Galadari said. “Understanding others’ faith and culture has made me understand the world better,” he added.
On his part, Vicky Kapur, Executive Editor of Khaleej Times, said media plays a critical role in nation development.
“And with Tolerance Talks, our attempt is to further those efforts. Moving beyond news coverage, we believe it is time citizens and residents of the UAE, and those of this world, hear for themselves the stories of peaceful coexistence, love and respect for each other as human beings, irrespective of our race or religion or community.”
