Forgetting bags, phones or other valuables at the airport is not uncommon.

But one unusual incident became a talking point on social media after a mother forgot her baby at Jeddah airport and realised her mistake only after the Kuala Lumpur-bound plane had taken off.

According to reports, authorities at the King Abdulaziz International Airport were left struggling to take a decision on the bizarre situation when the pilot spoke to them and requested to return to the airport.

In the conversation between the pilot and ATC officials which went viral, the pilot can be heard informing the officials that a mother onboard the plane had forgotten her baby at the terminal’s waiting area.

The pilot can be heard saying: “This flight is requesting to come back. A passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing. May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” Trying to establish a protocol for the situation, the flight operator can be heard discussing with the colleagues to reach a decision.

Informing that the mother was refusing to continue the flight, the pilot further says: “We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight.” Finally, the flight got clearance to return and the flight operator can be heard saying: “Ok, head back to the gate. This is totally a new one for us!”
