Apple just gave a ‘double’ boost to its iMacs
dubai — Apple is continuing to ride on its hype train in the lead-up to its special event on March 25 — on a daily basis.
A day after announcing refreshes to the iPad Air and mini, most notably Apple Pencil support, the company on Tuesday unveiled updates to its iMac PC line-up, which now boast new Intel chips and AMD graphics.
Apple last updated the iMac lineup at its Worldwide Developers Conference in 2017, in which it also unveiled the top-of-the-line iMac Pro.
The 21.5-inch iMac now starts with an 8th Generation Core i3 processor and, for the first time, a hexacore 8th Generation Core i5 processor on the higher-end model.
The 27-inch iMac, meanwhile, begins with a six-core 8th Generation
Core i5 processor and goes all the way up to a 9th Generation Core i5 with 8 cores. Prices of the two models start at Dh4,619 and Dh7,559, respectively.
“Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever,” Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac product marketing, said in a statement.
“With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and macOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world.”
Also for the first time, AMD’s Radeon Pro Vega graphics chip have been slotted into the iMac, promising up to 80 per cent faster performance on the 21.5-inch variant and up to 50 per cent on the 27-inch option.
