Victory Heights Primary School bounces into books

-

dubai — The children of Victory Heights Primary School were given a New Year’s Reading Challenge in January to read for 30 minutes every day, for 30 days. They were promised an exciting party with Principal Sasha as their reward initially; the school expected around 30 children to complete the challenge. However, it was impressive to find out that after the 30 days were up, 270 children from Years 1-6 had completed the reading challenge.

At Victory Heights, students are passionate about reading and know the huge benefits that regular reading can have on children’s vocabulary, knowledge, memory and writing skills. As a result, VHPS wanted to set a challenge that raised the profile of daily reading and encouraged all to pick up their books and dive into the world of reading.

The 270 children who completed the challenge were overjoyed to hear that their reward would be a session at the well-known trampolining venue Bounce. What’s more, it was to take place on World Book Day and so the children were able to go in the costumes of their favourite book characters.

The day was a huge success, and the children had a brilliant time. The staff at Bounce were excellent and even put on a professional show for all to watch. They felt that reading had been well and truly raised with a great deal of positive feedback from parents commenting that this initiative has helped their child’s reading skills immensely. VHPS hopes that this enthusiasm for reading continues and all look forward to the next challenge.
