14 young inventors awarded at Sharjah Children Biennial
sharjah — Fourteen kids from five countries were honoured for their inventions in this year’s Sharjah Children Biennial (SCB): One made a shredder that prints a solution to your worries; a little girl came up with an umbrella that you can wear around your waist; and a thoughtful boy envisioned a smart trolley that can get you what you need in the grocery store.
The honourees included nineyear-old Ahmad Rami Yehya, from the UAE, who invented the ‘Smart Trolley’, and 12-year-old Noorelhuda Darweesh, who conceptualised the ‘Waist Umbrella’. Ten-year-old Mohammed AlTonaiji won for his ‘Fishing boat without a fisherman’ and 12-yearold Suhaila Shareef Saad was honoured for her ‘Miracle Chair’. The ‘Tornado Skates’ of UAE-based Taym Omar Ibrahim, 15, also won an award.
From Saudi Arabia, Rayan Jalal was awarded for his ‘Box Invention’and eight-year-old Alia Sultan Al Abdeli was recognised for her ‘Agricultural scarecrow’.
The winners from Britain were Thomas Devleen and his ‘Worry Shredder’; eight-year-old Maja and her ‘Sweet Walker’; Bernard and his ‘Dog Flyer’; and eightyear-old Maisy and her ‘Love Heart Jacket’ creation.
From Ireland, nine-year-old Rosa Holmes won for her ‘Memory-o-Matic’, while Yiran Wang from China got an award for his ‘Scarf Bag’.
All the winners got an SCB trophy and boxes of art tools.
