Ground-breaking of Naya Pakistan Housing Programme next month

islamabad — Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the groundbrea­king of initial projects of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme during the second week of April.

A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting on the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme held at the Prime Minister’s House here. Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting.

The prime minister was informed that relevant laws for the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme had been finalized and would soon be presented to the cabinet committee on legislativ­e affairs before being tabled before parliament.

It was informed that four sites in Islamabad, one each in Lahore and Quetta were ready for the formal launch of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.

Discussing the issue of allowing vertical structures, the meeting decided that the modal being followed in the federal capital would

be replicated in all major cities of the country while addressing the issue of granting permission for constructi­on of high-rises.

The prime minister, in his remarks, stated that the housing programme, under which five million houses would be constructe­d, was a flagship project of the PTI government which would boost economy by creating hundreds of job opportunit­ies for the youth and giving a boost to constructi­on industry and allied sectors.

He said that implementa­tion of the housing programme, the main plank of the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf manifesto, would fulfill the dream of affordable housing for the low-income segment of the population.

The prime minister directed that the process of legislatio­n should be expedited and a seamless coordinati­on should be ensured at federal as well as provincial levels.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Asad Umar, Housing Minister Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema, Planning Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Adviser to PM Abdul Razzak Dawood, Special Assistant to PM Iftikhar Durrani and senior government officials.—
