dubai — The Dubai Court of First Instance cleared two brothers charged with providing compatriot woman with drugs that caused her death at a hotel.

The two Emiratis — aged 21 and 24 — were also referred to the Court of Misdemeanours charged with possession and use several types of drugs and psychotropic pills.

Hotel CCTV footage and records showed that the woman had booked a room on November 22, 2018. One of the brothers was seen entering the hotel with her on the same night; his brother came the next morning.

A case was registered at Bur Dubai police station.

A police lieutenant said: “We were alerted on November 23 last year about a death case at a hotel on the Sheikh Zayed Road. We moved to the place where crime scene investigators and a senior police officer were already present.”

The lieutenant recounted to the prosecutor how they found the deceased lying on a bed.

“The forensic physician was examining the body. Medical pills could be seen on a table near the bed.”

The officer added that he then learned that two Emirati nationals, who were with the victim at the time of her death, were being questioned at the hotel lobby.

The Dubai Police crime lab report showed the woman’s blood sample contained traces of tramadol and two other narcotics. Her urine sample had three types of narcotics.

The concentration of the tramadol and another drug in her blood was fatal.

The two defendants’ urine samples tested positive for the similar substances found in the woman’s system. The same drugs were found in the room and seized.

The ruling remains subject to appeal by the public prosecution.
