Week-long Metro music festival ends
dubai — The Dubai Metro Music Festival ended on Saturday, wrapping up a week of performances from 25 musicians from across the region and the world.
It had been a week-long celebration of global music that was organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Dubai Media Office, in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Free daily mini concerts were set up at five Dubai Metro stations — Burjuman, Union, DMCC, Mall of the Emirates and Burj Khalifa — much to the commuters’ delight.
Shaima Al Suwaidi, city branding manager of Brand Dubai, said: “The Dubai Metro Music Festival formed part of Brand Dubai’s efforts to support the creation of a vibrant environment in Dubai for art, music and culture to flourish. Several musicians, who have made waves on the international scene with their musical and instrument-building talents, participated in the event.
“Many of them said the festival gave them a unique platform to showcase their talent as well as opportunities to create new conversations and connections through the universal language of music.”
Artists at the festival, featuring traditional musicians, street performers, classical instrumentalists and fusion musicians, entertained audiences with distinctive harmonies from across the globe — from Brazil in the West to Indonesia in the East. The line-up also included child prodigies and popular Dubaibased expatriate musicians.
The instruments they played ranged from traditional to contemporary, apart from the innovative ones that were created by the artists from natural and recycled materials. The performances had become something to look forward to every day, so much so that even the non-commuter music lovers came to Metro stations just to watch the musicians play.
Rowdah Al Mehrizi, marketing and corporate communication director of the RTA, said: “Audiences from across the city visited the Dubai Metro stations to listen to the musicians play. The atmosphere was buzzing with creative excitement during the days of the festival. In many ways, the performances at the Metro stations were able to spread happiness and joy among people.”
