Nawaz Sharif to be treated at Lahore’s Sharif Medical City Hospital, says personal doctor
lahore — Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will undergo treatment at Sharif Medical City Hospital, his personal physician said while talking media on Wednesday.
Sharif, who was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail on Tuesday night after the Supreme Court granted him bail for six weeks to obtain medical treatment in the country, will likely to be shifted to the hospital on Thursday, Dr Mohammed Adnan Khan said.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Tuesday approved the former premier’s bail for six weeks on medical grounds. The court ruled that Sharif will not be allowed to leave the country for treatment, and directed him to submit two bail bonds amounting to Rs10 million. The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo reached his home in Jati Umra , Lahore, late on Tuesday night to a warm welcome by his family members, including his mother, daughter Maryam and brother Shahbaz Sharif.
Earlier, the deposed prime minister’s supporters and party workers gathered in large numbers outside the jail and showered his car with flowers as he left the area.
Some PML-N party workers moved along Sharif’s car till his residence.
Sharif’s release got delayed as the court order and other required documents could not reach the jail for more than 10 hours after the bench’s direction.
Shahbaz, meanwhile, has thanked the court for “meeting the
merits of justice”. “We thank the SC for considering gravity of the situation in the light of the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif. We also thank the nation and workers of the PML-N whose prayers had made this day possible,” the PMLN president said.
He said that Sharif ’s health and
well-being is the utmost priority of the party and that would be their primal focus.
Three corruption cases were registered against Sharif by the antigraft body in 2017 following a judgment by the Supreme Court that disqualified him in the Panama Papers case in 2017.—
