dubai — A worker, who allegedly stabbed a workmate in the right ear following a verbal brawl, was charged with attempted murder at a Dubai court on Sunday.

The Court of First Instance heard that the 22-year-old Pakistani worker tried to kill his colleague, 37, before other workers stepped in and took them away from each other. The victim, who is also a Pakistani, was rushed to hospital and underwent lifesaving surgery.

He is also standing trial for allegedly physically assaulting the other man and insulting him.

A Pakistani cook, 27, said that at 10.30am on December 2, 2018, he was at work at a restaurant in the French cluster in International City. “The victim, who was sent outside to buy meat, came back. The defendant asked him why he went out and the victim replied saying that was none of his business.”

The victim slapped the defendant twice on the cheek after the latter verbally abused him. “The defendant tried repeatedly in vain to stab the victim. He could stab the victim in his right ear. The cut was deep,” the witness recounted to the public prosecution investigator.

When the victim collapsed, the defendant walked out of the kitchen. The victim, who was then very hysterical, was rushed to the nearest clinic. Paramedics arrived shortly later and gave the victim a sedative before he was taken to hospital.

During the public prosecution investigation, the defendant admittedto the charges. The trial will continue on April 14.
