Festival to celebrate Moroccan women

abu dhabi — Moroccan women, with their generosity, creativity, vision and dedication, will be the star of the celebratio­ns in the fourth ‘Morocco in Abu Dhabi’ festival, set to kick off on April 17 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. It will run until the end of the month.

Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni, a member of the Federal National Council and chairman of the higher organising committee of the event, recently announced that all the preparatio­ns for the event have already been completed.

Aiming to strengthen the political, economic and cultural relationsh­ips between Morocco and the UAE, the event is welcomed by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and it is held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

This year’s event celebrates Moroccan women and their unique character. They have always served as co-leaders in sustaining social and economic developmen­t, and their contributi­ons have been noted throughout the history of the country.

Visitors of the festival will be entertaine­d with traditiona­l, spiritual, and rural Moroccan folk music. And enthusiast­s will have the chance to explore and discover Moroccan craftsmans­hip through a showcase of traditiona­l handicraft­s that reflect their heritage and a rich Arabic-Islamic legacy.

The latest designs of — through themes of traditiona­l and contempora­ry Maghreb embroidery and colour selection, as well as a special evening for an exclusive fashion show — are among the event’s top features.

For the first time, the Museum of Moroccan Heritage will treat history and antiquitie­s lovers to an exhibition of rare and unique display pieces that reflect Morocco’s rich history and civilisati­on, rooted in Arabic history.

Morocco in Abu Dhabi 2019 will feature Banat Lala Mnana, the play in which heroines will take their spectators on a marvelous journey to the enchanting northern area of Morocco, through a lot of singing and dancing and a rich plot.

As part of the event, a two-day concert will be held on April 18 and 19 at the Abu Dhabi Corniche, where Moroccan artists will take the stage to showcase the country’s musical cultures and pride. —
