Syrian hailed a hero for saving toddler from fall
ajman — Mohammed Anas Oraibi was in the balcony of his flat in Ajman when he spotted a toddler dangling dangerously from the railing of a seventh-floor window in the building opposite his. The child was crying and screaming and was trying to climb back up, but no one seemed to notice.
The Syrian expat rushed to the building, figured out the flat and knocked on the door. When a maid opened the door, he did not bother explaining why he was there and rushed to the window to rescue the three-year-old Arab child.
The expatriate has been honoured by the Ajman Police for his presence of mind and quick thinking, with top cops hailing him a hero. The police said the child’s parents were not at home and he and his brothers were left under the maid’s care.
Oraibi, who is in his early 30s, told Khaleej Times: “When I pulled the child to safety, he was terrified and crying. I hugged him and calmed him down.”
“When I saw the child dangling from that window, I didn’t waste time thinking. My conscience and instinct led me to the right flat.”
The expat notified the police, who rushed to the spot and took the children to protective custody. LieutenantColonel Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi, Director of Al Nuaimiya police station, said the children were kept at the police’s Community Support Centre till their parents returned and claimed them.

The police called on parents to ensure that their flats — especially in high-rises — are safe for children.
