dubai — A man, who stood trial for raping a boy at his parents’ villa, was acquitted by a Dubai court upon appeal against a threeyear imprisonment.

The Dubai Court of Appeals acquitted the 26-year-old Pakistani farmer of a sodomy charge, overturning the jail term and a deportation order that were handed by a lower court.

The Court of First Instance had convicted the farmer of the charge in October 2018. It heard that he was left alone with the Egyptian boy for him to cut the kid’s hair.

Public prosecution records showed that the boy got “very scared” in December 2017 when the man, who allegedly entered his bedroom, sat on his bed and then put his arms around him before forcing himself on him.

The farmer was accused of sexually assaulting the boy on several occasions, and the most recent one reportedly took place in December 2017 at the victim’s family house.

The incident was reported to Al Qusais police station in March 2018.

The boy’s 57-year-old Egyptian father, a farmer, said that in July 2017, he took his son to a psychiatric hospital as he had some mental problems.

“A psychiatrist had him attend therapy sessions for six months.

On February 4, 2018, that specialist asked to see me. I heard from him then that my son was sexually abused by a man (the defendant) on several occasions at our house.”

The boy told the investigators that he lived with his father and stepmother after his mother’s death. His father would often bring the farmer, his colleague, to their villa to cut his hair and that of his brothers. “My parents brought him in and left the house.”

The boy recounted how the man entered his bedroom and sat next to him on the bed.

Then, the kid claimed that the farmer asked him about his studies and suddenly hugged and kissed him.

He also opened up to his psychiatrist about being “sexually assaulted for seven other times by the same man”.

The accused was arrested by the officers from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs as he was trying to flee the country on March 22, 2018. The ruling may be contested at the Court of Cassation by the public prosecution.
