dubai — A man, who has allegedly raped his former colleague at her flat on New Year’s Eve, has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance.

According to public prosecution records, the 29-year-old Egyptian man forced himself on the Filipina after she invited him over to her flat on December 29 last year. The incident was reported to the Jebel Ali police station.

The complainant, 38, said she and the defendant used to work in the same company. “We were friends and would often meet. In July 2018, I left my job at the firm.”

Later, she got in touch with him on Facebook and invited him to her place.

“He arrived at 7.40pm and brought liquor with him. We drank from 8pm to 11pm, and then I fell asleep. I told him to stay overnight as he already vomited twice and I was worried about him,” she recalled.

He insisted on leaving and she did not mind, the complainant claimed. Thinking the accused had already left, the woman entered the bathroom and did not lock the door — that was when the man allegedly followed her.

She recounted to the prosecutor how he began kissing and touching her. She claimed that she repeatedly asked him to stop, but the defendant did not listen.

He allegedly took her to the bedroom and raped her, while she was begging him to leave her alone.

The woman managed to leave the flat when the accused started looking for his keys, records showed. Taking the service lift, she was able to seek help from the security guard.

A police sergeant said he was on patrol duty at 5am when they received the rape report. “When we reached the building, we found the complainant at the reception. She said the accused raped her twice. She was crying and very scared.”

A forensic report showed that the victim was raped by the defendant.

The accused admitted during the investigation that he had sex with the complainant and that he had consumed alcohol. He will be sentenced on April 29.
