Report sought on action taken against terrorists

islamabad — The senate standing committee on interior on Friday asked the interior ministry to submit a comprehens­ive report on the Quetta blast and apprise the Upper House about actions so far taken against terrorists and banned outfits.

Strongly condemning the terrorist attack at fruit market in the Hazarganji area of Quetta, Senator Rehman Malik, who also chaired the meeting, said, “Our hearts are with victim families of Quetta blast and we share their pains and sorrows.”

He said that involvemen­t of enemy countries in terrorist activities in Balochista­n could not be ignored as such blasts were aimed at stoking sectarian violence to destabilis­e Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by senators Azam Swati, Dr Shehzad Wasim, Kalsoom Parveen, Javed Abbasi, Asad Junejo, Kauda Babar and Sardar Shafique Tareen. Senior government officials briefed the participan­ts.

The committee sought a report from the government of Balochista­n about the incident and decided to hold next meeting in Quetta. The committee expressed grief over the loss of human lives and expressed sympathies with the families of martyred.

Rehman Malik said he had already called a special meeting for briefing on implementa­tion of the National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate terrorism. Members of the committee while expressing grief, strongly condemned the blast and asked the interior ministry to implement NAP in its true letter and spirit.
