Khaleej Times

41 and counting: We’re just Warming up

- Vicky Kapur vicky@khaleejtimes.com

Anewspaper, like a prized heirloom, becomes dearer with age, offering deeper insights and more sophisticated opinion to its audience. In a media platform’s lifespan, Khaleej Times is finally on the right side of 40. Your favourite newspaper turns 41 today, underscoring an evolution dotted by a paradoxical paradigm.

In these 14,975 days and as many editions, the UAE’s first English newspaper has moved miles ahead yet remained grounded in integrity. We’ve stubbornly refused to alter our beliefs and principles while wholeheartedly embracing change and innovation. We’ve zealously guarded the interests of our readers while actively scouting for ways to expand our audience base. We’ve stuck to the narrative of truth and only truth while exploring newer and more dynamic forms of storytelling. Our journalism has stood the test of time, chronicling history in its purest form for posterity while redefining and

reinventing ourselves several times over our more than four decades of existence. Today, as we celebrate our 41st, we circled back to an assortment of our readers — the ones that have stayed with us for decades and also those that have chosen us more recently, to understand what makes them pick up a copy of KT day after day, to understand what we may be getting right but, more importantly, to figure out where we may be going wrong. Your acute observations, stark reflections and intense opinions never fail to inspire us to strive to do better with each edition of the newspaper, with each article or interview, and with each multimedia story, picture or infographic.

On our anniversary, we’re humbled by the passion and affection that our readers have shown us over the decades. You’ve been our guiding light, our beacon of reason, our raison d’être, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed keeping track of change and serving your interests for 41 years — and counting.
