dubai — Over 500 bricks were secured by the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) for its Pakistan Medical Centre (PMC) during a community event held on Thursday. The upcoming centre will be a first non-profit healthcare facility in the GCC put together by any expatriate community and is expected to be open to public in August this year.

PAD has been campaigning for the centre through its ‘Own a Brick’ initiative that offers 15,000 bricks to community members with each brick costing Dh1,000, in order to meet the total cost of Dh15 million for the construction of the building.

Renowned TV personality Bushra Ansari, rallied support for the centre, along with 300 community members during the gala dinner, which began with a panel discussion.

“The project is on track and we plan to inaugurate in August. Among the 15,000 bricks (Dh15 million) project, there are 3,000 bricks (Dh3 million) left. PAD has Dar Al Ber Society as its charity partner and we urge corporate institutions to contribute to this cause,” said PAD president Dr Faisel Ikram.

Dr Nighat Aftab, president of PAD’s medical wing, said: “The PMC will offer free services to all needy people who seek medical help, irrespective of their nationality, ethnicity, religion economic status, or age.”

Ansari, who entertained the audience with her comedy, said: “The PMC is such a noble initiative as it aims to benefit not only Pakistanis but also aims to help anyone in need.”
