We always hear about Dubai Police officers stopping by and helping distressed motorists on the road. It’s always inspiring and, as the saying goes, it never gets out of style.

Over the weekend, an officer, who was on his way home to Ras Al Khaimah after a night shift at the Bur Dubai Police Station, helped an Indian motorist change his tyre.

“Some people, who stopped by, refused to help as it was very hot,” Dubai resident Abdul Wahab shared with Khaleej Times. “My front tyre had burst and I pulled over to the road shoulder to change it. But I could not do it as I have a knee problem. Thankfully, police officer Nasser bin Hadeed Al Shabib was there to help.”

“I knew he was tired after doing a night duty but he still had the energy to assist me and I am so grateful for his help,” he added.

People who work in public service really choose no time and place to perform their duties, observed Khaleej Times readers. Rajibul Hossain commented: “Thanks to Dubai Police for their generous work. I got the same service two years ago in Sharjah from a Dubai cop. He was also off duty that time. Salute to him.”

Help for expat mother

Meanwhile, help poured in for an expat mother who was seeking help to clear immigration fines to sponsor the visa of her three children who have not been to school for years. She recently found a job but the only hurdle was the immigration fine of around Dh16,000.

Minutes after we posted her story online, KT got numerous responses from generous readers. Sanjay said he and his family were willing to help and so was Sangeetha, who wrote to us: “We read the mother’s plea to clear the fines to sponsor her kids. Please send details about the lady.““Please advise how I can assist financially,” wrote Rizwan, another KT reader. “How to help the Nigerian family? Any account details,” added Farhad, who immediately wired a generous sum to the family.

The mother also wrote to us: “Thank you for all the help. Now, there is really a chance that we can finally get back our lives and stand on our feet. I’m determined to give my children a good life.”
