100 pumps deployed to clear flooded roads in RAK

ras al khaimah — More than 100 tankers and pumps were deployed in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday to drain out the rainwater that had accumulate­d following Sunday’s downpour.

Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, an adviser to the emirate’s department of public works, said the team ensured that the situation was addressed immediatel­y.

Rainwater also reportedly swamped different parts of Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Mountainou­s areas and valleys in the three emirates were affected by the heavy rain, while some parts witnessed hail.

The mercury dropped to 18.4 degrees Celsius on Jebel Jais Mountain at 4.30am on Monday, according to the weatherman with the National Center of Meteorolog­y.

“The weather is expected to be fair to partly cloudy on Tuesday, with some clouds predicted eastward and southward.”

Abdullah Salem, an Emirati national at the Shamal area in Ras Al Khaimah, told Khaleej

Times that several valleys in the northern and southern parts were flooded.

Heavy to moderate showers were reported in several areas of Umm Al Quwain, sources said. “It rained heavily in the emirate’s Falaj Al Mualla, and most roads were flooded with rainwater.”

The RAK, UAQ and Fujairah Police have urged all drivers to avoid valleys and mountainou­s areas, and be extra careful on wet and flooded roads.

“Drivers need to reduce their speed and observe a safe distance between vehicles amid the unstable weather conditions.”
