Biggest cancer fundraiser back in Sharjah in Nov
SHARJAH — The world’s largest fundraising event for cancer is set to return to Sharjah next month, and everyone is invited to take part in the 24-hour awareness walkathon, the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) organisation has announced.
The second edition of the UAE ‘Relay for Life’ walkathon will be held on November 22-23 at the American University of Sharjah. Organised in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, it will continue to raise funds and increase awareness about fighting cancer in the region.
Whether you’re going to walk, run, volunteer or just cheer for the participants, your presence would mean a lot in the global fight against cancer, said Sawsan Jafar, chairperson of the FOCP board of directors.
“Endorsed by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi — wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, founder and royal patron of FOCP, and chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs — ‘Relay for Life’ is not only for people battling cancer and their families, but also for survivors with inspiring stories to tell.
Jafar said: “It seeks to awaken the community spirit in all of us (so we can) stand in solidarity with those who suffer, remember the loved ones we lost to cancer, and help in raising awareness and funds to fight the disease.”
A series of sports events and other activities are also lined up.
