sharjah — A new Sharjah road network leading to Al Hamriya area is now open to all, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced. Built at a cost of Dh70 million, the project included highways that link the Hamriyah Free Zone with Emirates Road and the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street, easing the movement of trucks to and from the zone.

Yousef Saleh Al Suwaiji, chairman of the SRTA, said the project was aligned with Sharjah’s strategy to make the emirate a model industrial and commercial centre equipped with world-class infrastructure.

It took the team 10 months to complete the project, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

“The infrastructure project is expected to attract investors and visitors who wish to benefit from the business at the free zone,” Al Suwaiji said.

Engineer Sheikha Al Zuain, director of road contracts department at the SRTA, said the project was divided into two parts.

The first part included the construction of a road leading to the free zone, connecting the Emirates Road with the Sheikh Mohamed

Bin Zayed Street. This new road extends from Emirates Road — passing through the area adjacent to the Arqoub industrial and then parallel to the borders of Sharjah and Ajman — to the Hamriyah/Zubair Bridge on the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street.

It consisted of two lanes in each direction with a total length of about 3.8km, Al Zuain said. Then,

it is linked to Emirates Street and Al Zubair Gate, extending up to about 6.4km.

The second part of the project includes a 1.1km two-lane road that is connected to the new highway leading to the Hamriyah Free Zone via the bridge on Al Ittihad Street and the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street.
