Fernandes on target as United down Watford; Arsenal see off Everton

- AP/Reuters

manchester — Bruno Fernandes coolly rolled in a penalty for his first goal for Manchester United to set his new team on its way to a 3-0 win over relegationthreatened Watford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Anthony Martial also netted, for the third straight game, and teenager Mason Greenwood added a brilliant third goal as

United climbed above Tottenham and Sheffield United into fifth in the standings. That is currently a Champions League qualification place following Manchester

City’s recent twoseason ban from

European competitions by UEFA.

Meanwhile,

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice to earn Arsenal a 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday, extending the Gunners’ unbeaten start to 2020.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton ahead in the first minute with an acrobatic volley after poor defending from David Luiz but the Gunners reacted well.

Young forward Eddie Nketiah, who started ahead of Alexandre Lacazette, levelled for Arsenal in the 27th minute and six minutes later Aubameyang put the home side ahead.

Brazilian Richarlison brought Everton back on level terms though just before the interval but Arsenal struck straight after the break with Aubameyang heading in a Nicolas Pepe cross.

Fernandes has slotted seamlessly into the United team since his January move from Sporting Lisbon. After grabbing his first assist in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Monday, the Portugal playmaker got on the scoresheet for the first time against Watford. —
