Schools shouldn’t block access to e-learning

-

Our school has blocked access to academic results and e-leaning access due to delay in payment of fees. In these difficult times when the government is doing so much to help the residents, school administrations are being insensitive towards students.

No parent would like to hold their child’s fees purposely. However, the current situation is bad, salaries in the UAE are being delayed, businesses are drastically down.

This is the time schools (and the government) needs to show compassion towards students.

Students are frustrated for not being able to see their results and sitting at home doing nothing, as school has blocked our e-learning access.

Students have complained to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) also but they said school has the right to hold the result, if fees is not paid. Parents need some time to pay the school fees, and should be given a grace period. Meanwhile, schools should release the academic results and unblock access to e-learning.

School administrations should access and understand that this crisis is temporary and things will normalise in a few months.

We sincerely hope that our government will come forward to support us and help students resume their learning. —Name withheld on request

Make home a safe haven

The opinion column ‘For next one month, just listen to your family’ (KT, March 30) brought forth the importance of family in our life. Taking the family for granted is what most folks do, especially people with relentless chronic pain. Family is an easy target to release anger, frustration, disappointment, despair, and pain.

But people need to be aware that venting out anger on others can have detrimental effects. Getting angry will not alleviate your suffering, but it can disconnect you from your family and will cause deep cracks in the bond, causing intimidation, fear, hurt in their mind.

Patience and tolerance are of utmost importance for everyone and so is valuing the family. Family is a source of motivation, inspiration, unstinted support, unconditional love, and goes an extra mile to make life good. Unsavory behaviour takes a toll on the family members, and pollutes the home environment. Soothing words from the family can have magical effects. Let’s try and make home a safe haven. —Jayashree Kulkarni, India
