Contact-tracing helps identify 150 new cases

abu dhabi — The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday confirmed 150 new cases of the Covid-19 coronaviru­s, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 814. The total number of infection cases worldwide on Wednesday crossed 922,130.

The ministry said all the new cases were diagnosed through contact-tracing and are related to previous cases that arrived in the UAE and did not follow the 14-day quarantine.

The ministry also announced two new deaths from Covid-19. A 62-year-old Asian and a 78-year-old GCC national — both with heart-related problems — are the latest victims. The total number of deaths in the UAE now stands at eight.

Earlier, in a virtual press briefing on Covid-19, Dr Farida Al Hosani, director of communicab­le diseases at the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, said UAE continues to exert all efforts to contain and combat the spread of coronaviru­s in order to protect the health of citizens and residents.

She noted that a virtual platform, Weqaya, has been launched and will provide informatio­n on all precaution­ary measures and the latest decisions and resolution­s on coronaviru­s. Weqaya (meaning prevention), is a website specifical­ly designed to raise public health awareness on the pandemic. The platform, www.

weqaya.ae, also aims to provide informatio­n to the UAE public on preventati­ve health and safety measures to curb the spread of the virus.
