Website to update info, spread awareness

abu dhabi — The UAE has launched a virtual platform to provide informatio­n on all precaution­ary measures and the latest decisions and resolution­s on the Covid-19 outbreak.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority on Wednesday launched the ‘Weqaya’ (prevention), a website specifical­ly designed to raise public health awareness on coronaviru­s. The platform, www.weqaya.

ae, also aims to provide informatio­n to the UAE public on preventati­ve health and safety measures to curb the spread of Covid-19, said the official spokespers­on for the health sector in the UAE.

During a virtual media briefing on Wednesday, Dr Farida Al Hosani, director of communicab­le diseases at the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, said the government has also formed a prevention team which includes hundreds of volunteers of all nationalit­ies that will work on promoting awareness and will provide support to all UAE communitie­s and societies.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) also has a call centre that provides all

necessary informatio­n regarding Covid-19 through coordinati­ng with the call centres across the country through toll free 800-weqaya.

Al Hozani said the citizens and residents are abiding by the precaution­ary measures, including avoiding family gatherings.

“Some elderly parents have complained that their children are not visiting them and some are annoyed by the lack of family visits and gatherings. I can tell you, we can feel the pain and we respect your emotions. We are doing all these to protect you and your loved ones. We are keen to protect your health because your lives are dear to us,” she said.
