UAE’s doing well to prevent the spread of virus

-

I think the UAE is doing a great job dealing with Covid-19 (UAE is ready for coronavirus battle, so

should you; KT, March 30). The sanitisation drive across the UAE should help clean our outdoors and could immensely help containing the spread of the virus. All we have got to do is cooperate, follow rules, and regulations. I, however, feel for the people who work in laundry shops, for instance. They still have a chance of getting infected. Sick people might be sending their clothes to the laundry and the attendants can carry the virus again, which could unleash another cycle of infections. Delivery boys too can deliver the virus from one home to another. —Jom Nacario, KT website

• Thank you UAE for the support and efforts employed in containing the spread of Covid-19 in the emirates. Besides the ongoing efforts, the government should also consider extending the strict lockdown programme for 28 more days. It could be helpful and save a lot more people from infections. Furthermore, if there is any possibility provide the government should basic needs like food and water to people in the labour camps, as they might not have stocked up or find it difficult to sustain through such a lengthy time. Also, there should be medical checkups at each camp and home during the lock down time.

• The economy on the whole is undergoing massive disruptions, which has forced a lot of companies to announce pay cuts and send their employees on unpaid leaves until further notice. These are difficult times and a lot of people might be jostling their budgets to stay afloat in the wake of reduced earnings. Any relief, at this point in time, on rentals would be a big relief for most of the people working in the UAE. Monthly salaries have been reduced to up to 50 per cent in some cases. Moratorium on rentals until people get back to work and situation improves would be highly appreciated. We are thankful to the government of the UAE for all support extended till date. —Jude Fernandez, KT website
