dubai — Legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara has urged people to learn from his great rival Sachin Tendulkar about the importance of showing patience in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the world grapples with the menace of coronavirus, forcing people to remain indoors to stop the spread of the deadly disease, Lara said it was important for people to behave responsibly and show discipline.

And the iconic West Indies player said people should look up to Tendulkar who produced one of the most famous Test innings in 2004 while showing incredible level of discipline and patience

runs, repeatedly losing his wicket in the slip cordon.

Having scored just 82 runs (0, 1, 37, 0, 44) in five innings in the first three Tests, the master batsman decided to avoid playing outside off stump in the fourth Test in Sydney in an attempt to regain form.

And it was a strategy that worked brilliantly in Sydney as Tendulkar ended up scoring an unbeaten 242. Incredibly Tendulkar spent 10 hours and 13 minutes at the crease without playing a single shot on the off side.

And this level of sacrifice, Lara says, is the need of the hour if the people want to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We can all learn the discipline needed to COMBAT anything in life from this performance 241 not out vs Australia,” Lara wrote on his official Instagram page, while sharing a video clip of Tendulkar’s famous innings in Sydney.

Lara, the only man to have scored 400 runs in a Test innings, also hailed Tendulkar as the master batsman.

“Sachin Tendulkar not was, but IS one of the greatest to have played our glorious game,” Lara said.
