Pakistani consular services suspended

DUBAI – The Pakistan Consulate in dubai has suspended consular services for two weeks in the wake of restrictio­ns imposed by the dubai government on the movement of people to contain the spread of Covid-19.

issuance and renewals of passport and National identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis remain suspended. Only emergency cases will be handled, the consulate said. Welfare work by the consulate will go ahead as planned to help the needy.

“Keeping in view the dubai Government’s 24-hour sterilisat­ion programme and restrictio­ns of movements for two weeks, all needy Pakistani nationals in dubai and Northern Emirates are requested to register for ration. The consulate will contact the people,” the mission said on its twitter account.

20,000 register to go back

ahmed amjad ali, consul-general of Pakistan in dubai, told Khaleej Times that the number of Pakistani nationals who want to go back home reached 20,000 on Sunday evening.

“Yes, almost 20,000 people have registered so far on the digital platforms announced by the Consulate General of Pakistan, dubai. We are only collecting the data of Pakistanis stranded here now due to Covid-19,” he said.

as reported by Khaleej Times earlier, around 5,000 people had registered by Saturday afternoon.

“Consulate and embassy officials are talking with the Pakistani government and relevant airlines on how to transport these people when airlines have been grounded and there is a lockdown in the countries,” ali said on Sunday.

On Friday, the consulate asked its nationals in uaE to register if they want to go back when special flights resume. all concerned people were requested to fill a form and send their details on Whatsapp number 0097156396­2911 or email it to parepdubai@mofa.gov.pk.

ali reiterated that priority will be given to people whose visit visas have been expired or visas have been cancelled or other urgent emergency and medical cases.
